You should never include a personal photo on a professional career resume. Using a photo is inappropriate when you are applying for a professional position unless you are in a field such as modeling that obviously requires one.
For the majority of professional positions, a photo is unsuitable for a variety of reasons. First of all, your appearance is not the business of a prospective employer. A photo can tell a prospective employer about your race, age, sex and other details that an employer is not allowed to ask otherwise. Unless, you are an actor or an entertainer, if a professional position requires a photo for application, they are not acting in a proper manner. In fact, there are laws that demand prospective employers not ask questions about personal facts such as race, sex and marital status that do not really apply to the job you are looking for.
Further, if you attempt to use a personal photo to gain a prospective employer’s attention, most likely you will - in a negative way. Your appearance is irrelevant to most employers, are who more concerned about your qualifications to effectively perform the job.
When in doubt, consider using a professional resume writer to maximize your job seeking potential. Hiring a resume writer is a solid investment in your professional future and may mean the difference between landing a terrific position or remaining in a dead end job forever.
