You see an advertisement in the newspaper or on a job site on the Internet and you apply. Your resume elicits a positive response and you get called for an interview. Now, do you just pick up your files and go ahead? Or shouldn’t you rather research and find out all you can about the company and its profile? After all you did apply wanting to work for this company! What are its features that catapulted you to want to work there? Where are you on its hierarchy? All these questions and more will be answered if you spend just a little time researching the net.

If you do not want to go for an interview looking totally at sea as to the company’s structure and working style, take good advice and scour the Internet and you are sure to come up with some interesting information on the company, its policies and its reputation in the market and much more. You can also rest assured if the company is in your line of interest. You wouldn’t want to be working for someone who does not interest you in his or her line of work would you?

When you have done a thorough employer research on the company, you will also be able to find out the job profile, where you fit in and what are the queries you might want to clarify at the interview. Showing that you have studied the company profile is sure to take you a notch higher in their perception of you as a suitable candidate. A well-prepared candidate is one who has done adequate employer research.

Inside information will invariably be most accurate, as the Internet will only give you the rosier side of the picture – the office seen through tinted glasses, so to say.
